Lovehoney Classic Extra Powerful Wand Vibrator

I’ve recently acquired some wand vibrators. Prior to a few months ago, the only wand I owned was the Shibari Halo. As sacrilegious as it may be, I still don’t own a Magic Wand, but I’ve added a few others to my collection including the beautiful Doxy Die Cast and now the Lovehoney Classic Extra Powerful Massage Wand Vibrator.

Wand vibrators provide broad stimulation and they are known for being very powerful. Although I usually prefer pinpoint stimulation (i.e. the We-Vibe Tango), I definitely love/need strong vibration, and I thought the Shibari Halo was pretty good, so I thought it would be interesting to try more wands.

The Lovehoney Classic Wand is a corded wand and it’s controlled by a scroll wheel. The scroll feature is definitely my favorite thing about it. I appreciate having a wide range of vibration, even if I usually end up on the highest setting. And as I expected, this wand is very powerful. It’s definitely buzzier than it is rumbly, but even as someone who hates buzzy vibration, I like how it feels and I can orgasm pretty fast when I use it.

The head of the wand is made of plastic and doesn’t dampen the vibration. It’s difficult to clean, though, because of the notches in it. Honestly I’m not really sure why those notches are there in the first place; I don’t find that they enhance my experience at all. It’s not like I need to clean it really thoroughly all the time so it’s not that much of a hindrance, but it still bothers me.

Another great feature is it’s flexible neck. I’ve found that my preferred way to use wand vibes is to press the side of the head against my body with some pressure, so the flexibility makes that easier and more comfortable. But there is a downside to this. And for me, it’s a huge downside. I cannot stand the noise this thing makes when I bend the neck like that.

I know the Magic Wand and other wand vibes can be quite loud as well but this is different. Especially on its highest setting, the Lovehoney wand is already rather noisy. When I talked to some other bloggers about this, David from The Big Gay Review agreed and described it as a “full on death rattle.”  But when the neck is bent it’s a whole new level of noise, making a wretched grinding sound reminiscent of a dentist’s office.

lovehoney-wand1I wasn’t sure if the grinding sound was due to a problem with my wand in particular or if this is a common problem. So, like I said, I checked in with some other bloggers to see if they encountered this. Apricot confirmed that their wand also made the noise. They said “it sounds like when there’s construction being done but just down the road,” which I found hilarious and completely spot on.

But maybe you don’t use wands the same way I do. Maybe you prefer a gentler approach that doesn’t require all that neck bending. Rebecca from A Couple of Kinks (who loves this wand) told me that she had never heard hers make a grinding sound but decided to test it to see what would happen. When she bent the neck, sure enough it made the noise too. But she says she never uses it by pressing it hard enough to bend the neck, so it has never been a problem for her.

So when it comes to recommending this wand or not, I’d say that unless you know for sure that you would bend the neck a lot and the noise would be a mood-ruiner for you, yes I would recommend buying it. It’s cheaper than many wand style vibrators and it’s very effective. The biggest reason why I suggest trying it out is because Lovehoney has an excellent return policy, offering free returns for up to 1 year after your purchase.
